Recently, I was asked to re-design a specific botanical illustration of a Staghorn Fern for a limited production of shirts pressed by SanFranPsycho. To promote the annual spring plant sale at the San Francisco Botanical Garden!
During the event I was able to catch a friend and classmate (seen above) wearing one. There is a good chance that the shirt design will be reprinted and available through the gift shop at the SFBG store.
A recent sketch of leaves, stems and branches. I created this drawing with pencil on textured grey / lavender paper. Definitely going to conjure up a color version soon. Depending on how the final draft turns out I may order a set of prints which will be available for sale here.
In celebration of Spring I decided to create this illustration of Magnolia’s. It’s the line art version of a rough sketch I started during the Holiday’s. It’s been added to the Portfolio section and will make another appearance (yet with color) in the future.
Photos taken during a recent trip to the Filoli estate in San Mateo, California. I spent a day with the gardeners plus apprentices from the San Francisco Botanical Gardens on a tour of the nursery, gardens and orchard. It was a memorable experience and I felt completely inspired by the time we were ready to pack up and head home.
Looks like Summer has finally arrived in San Francisco. I’m working every week at the Botanical Gardens and gritting my teeth as I get through midterm season at school. Hoping to be able to sit down soon and spend some much needed time on artwork. For now though I’m happy to be spending the sunny days that we do have with my family. Checking out new found trails and exploring favorite places that we’ve been to before yet haven’t been able to visit for ages.
Cold as winters ice! This photo was taken during class outside of the nurseries on campus. In the thick of Fall semester.
The new and improved website is officially up and running. Over the past few months I have been reorganizing my portfolio in order to create spendlove.art, as seen here! Check back soon for recent artwork and project updates.
